Juan Mateo Menendez

Associate Producer

Juan has been in the documentary film industry for the last four years. He has worked for Academy Award nominated filmmakers Amy Hobby, Amy Berg, and Heidi Ewing in various production and editing roles. A native of Mexico City, he currently resides in New York and hopes to have a production company, a dog, and two cats in the near future.

What else are you working on?

I’ve been working on a documentary about my grandmother on and off over the past few years. She was a very organized hoarder who was extremely intelligent and one of the first women to attend Harvard. I work on that and other small projects whenever I have the time.

What do you like about the work you do?

I like working on documentaries about subject matter that I find compelling and unique, and I think the projects we’re working on at Opendox tick those and many other boxes.

What does inclusivity mean to you?

Inclusivity means treating every human being as human. It seems obvious but I see examples every day of people mistreating each other because they forget this very simple truth.

When do you feel most like yourself?

In the rare moment when I manage to find complete stillness.

I spend a lot of time thinking about…

The future.
