Alexis Aceves Garcia

Studio Manager

Where did you work before Openbox?

I studied poetry at San Francisco State University before moving to New York City 6 years ago. Since then, I’ve worked across magazine publishing, nonprofit journalism, book publishing, and post-advertising. Most recently, I was the Studio Manager at Imprint Projects.

Why do you do the work you do?

I want my coworkers to succeed. When I align with a company's mission, I invest in their workplace operations and culture wholeheartedly. Sometimes that means putting out more dark chocolate covered almonds than necessary, and other times, it's looking at processes and workflow and strategizing around what works best. My success is the success of the cohort. Working with a talented group of folks to get things done is its own reward.

What does inclusivity mean to you?

Equity.

When do you feel most like yourself?

Performing poems or on my bike crossing a bridge towards an afternoon of reading and writing alone.

I spend a lot of time thinking about _______.

Line

breaks, punctuation, what gets people up in the morning and into work, my Abuelita Nonoy’s migration pattern, and what I’m going to eat next.
